Nicole founded ABL in Jan 1991 after having worked for a specialist international secretarial agency. A Francophone with a knowledge of Spanish and Arabic, Nicole holds a BA in French and Economics, and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the London School of Economics.
“ When you take a genuine interest in the motivations and needs of others, and understand what an employee or career really means to a business or individual , you gain a rare insight into the human race. It is always worth taking the time to listen; everybody has a story to tell”
In an office on Sackville Street, armed with a couple of beanbags and a laptop, Nicole Debson starts Appointments Bi-Language (ABL). The ‘new kids on the block’, we throw down the gauntlet to traditional recruitment agencies.
After months of development, we achieve our first permanent placement with Credit Lyonnais, then the largest bank in France.
As the demand for bilingual recruits increases, James Munro’s expertise in recruitment sees him joins us in order to head up the ‘Temporary’ department.
The Big Move. We leave the bean bags behind in Sackville Street and find ourselves our first ‘proper’ office in Covent Garden.
Under James’ management, the temps team expands, with the addition of 4 more consultants to handle high profile accounts including Goldman Sachs, L’Oreal and Banque Paribas.
Our developments as a unique recruitment agency garners national press attention, with features appearing in the Evening Standard, The Times and The Guardian.
As our reputation grows, focus is turned on Nicole who is interviewed as a successful female entrepreneur in Ms London, 9-5 and The Recruiter Magazine.
A real breakthrough year for us, 2006 sees ABL unveiled as partners with SONY; accounts opened with Getty Images, Givenchy and Yahoo; and features galore in The Guardian, the Daily Mail, The Interviewer & Director Magazine.
As well as winning the “Here is the City” award for Best Specialist Recruiter, 2008 sees the launch of our Translations department and James Munro joining the board of directors.
We reach the finals of the hotly contested “Here is the City” Recruitment Agency of the Year awards, at the same time as our team ups sticks once more to move to our larger office and new home in the heart of Holborn.
Looking to the future expansion of the company, and the consolidation of the excellent staff and contacts we have, Tracy Durrant joins ABL as our Operations Director.
