Interesting fact: The fountain pen was invented by the Romanian Petrache Poenaru

Romanian is a Romance language predominantly spoken in Romania. Present day Romania was once inhabited by the Dacian people. Defeated by the Romans in 106 CE this territory then became a Roman province, which colonised by the Romans then inherited Latin as the language of administration and commerce.

Due to the geographical isolation of Romania (or Dacia, as it was then), the Romanian language was perhaps the first of the Romance languages to split from Latin, which may go someway to explaining why Romanian is one of the most uniform and conservative of all the Romance languages.
